WHO ARE WE?

Cloudy Bay Funeral Services, Marlborough's only locally family owned funeral home, is proudly owned and operated by David and Ann Buckley, and Alan and Liz Walker.

David grew up in Marlborough and after pursuing a carpentry career became involved in the funeral industry in 1996, and saw the opportunity to own his own funeral business in 2002.

Ann's family has a long Marlborough history.  Her great-grandfather first came to settle in the district in 1890 and the family has remained for five generations.  Ann has a Diploma in Secretarial Studies and works in the office, attending to administration and reception duties.

Alan and Liz came to Marlborough in 1976 as teachers and have made it their home, raising 3 sons now all grown.  Alan's career in the funeral industry began in 1998 following many years teaching the intellectually disabled, hospital social work and other opportunities.

Liz continues to be committed to teaching with her BA in Education but knows what it is to be a business owner, with experience in accounting management.

David, Ann and Alan are supported by two other staff members:

Janice Pigou, Funeral Director/Grief Care Services

Gwenda Cavanagh, Office Administration

David and Anne Buckley                                  Liz and Alan Walker

FUNERAL DIRECTORS

David Buckley and Alan Walker both hold a National Diploma in Funeral Services, being both registered Funeral Directors' under the New Zealand Funeral Directors' Association of N.Z. and also qualified and registered embalmers with the New Zealand Embalmer's Association.  Together they bring to the local community over 20 years experience.

FUNERAL DIRECTOR/AFTER CARE SERVICE

Janice Pigou, is Marlborough's first fully registered female funeral director, having qualified in the National Certificate in Funeral Directing through the NZQA. She also holds a Diploma in the Loss, Grief and Dying Course and has completed a Certificate in Grief Support; and together with this experience, is available to offer support and understanding. In conjunction with the after care visits, we have a free set of four books from the "Continuing Care Series" which are offered to the family and sent out during the first year following a bereavement. These books include information and encouragement to assist people in their grieving. We believe that children are often overlooked at the time of a death in the family, and that they have special needs in coping with a death at different ages in their development. We have resources available to assist children where needed together with other resources that are helpful to particular grief losses.

PREPAID/PREARRANGED FUNERALS

Cloudy Bay Funeral Services is a member of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand therefore participates in their own prepaid funeral plan.

When prepaying a funeral you must ensure that your money is secure. We do not hold your money within our company. It is placed within the "Family Bereavement Plan", which is administered by the Funeral Directors Association on New Zealand and Sovereign Assurance.

There are two ways you can pre-pay a funeral. You can place in a lump sum up to $10,000.00, or you can visit us and we will listen to what type of funeral you want, price it at today's prices, and that can be the sum which you place into the plan.

All money placed into the prepaid funeral fund earns interest. New Zealand Tax obligations are met by the fund manager Sovereign Assurance, and upon death the money invested plus all interest due is sent through for your funeral expenses. In most cases there is a refund which passes through to your estate.
