Casket Flowers:

Flowers are traditionally the most silent but visible token of your emotion and respect. We can arrange a suitable floral tribute on behalf of your family from a florist of your choice

Recording of Funeral Service:

Occasionally family members are in other parts of the country or overseas and are unable to attend the Funeral Service. An audio or video recording of the service may be very helpful in these circumstances.

An audio recording within the funeral home is free of charge. If the audio recording is carried out in another venue there may be a small charge, depending on the audio system of the venue.

Video recording is also available. We use the services of Fauldings Electrical Feilding to video the funeral service. Cost is price on application.

However, you may have a friend or family member with a video camera who would be more than happy to perform this service.

Service sheets and memorial books:

We have a selection of memorial books for you to choose from. These form part of a lasting record of family and friends who were able to share in the funeral service with you.

We are also able to offer a wide range of service sheets. These contain the words to the hymns, readings, pallbearers and any other information relative to the service. Many families are now choosing to have a photo of the deceased on the front cover as another lasting memorial of the service. We can discuss with you your requirements and arrange for these to be printed.

Newspaper announcements :

It is customary to place an announcement in the local and/or national newspapers. This serves two useful objectives. To make sure that anyone wishing to attend the funeral is able to, by informing relatives and friends of the appointed time and place. Secondly, to reduce the chances of an embarrassing encounter with an uninformed friend or neighbour.

We can arrange for these to be inserted in any newspaper in New Zealand, or around the world.

We can provide a funeral to suit your financial budget.

Accident Compensation Corporation has a funeral grant of $5541.23, for deaths occurring as the result of an accident or medical misadventure

You cannot claim a funeral grant from both WINZ and ACC.

Medical Insurance companies also have a range of death covers, check with your insurance company to find out whether this is included in your policy.

Please note:

Above amounts may be subject to change.

If you have any queries regarding these grants feel free to contact us at William Cotton & Sons who will be able to advise and assist you in your queries.

All arrangements are in the strictest confidence.

Prepaid and prearranged funerals:

William Cotton & Sons Ltd. is a member of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand. For those wishing to prepay their funeral costs we recommend the Family Bereavement Plan. Sovereign Assurance Company Ltd and the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand administer this plan. Your funds are invested in this plan in your name and are not held by the funeral company.

Under current government legislation prepaid funeral funds up to $10,000 are exempt from asset testing when assessing eligibility for long term residential care. You may however choose to invest a lesser amount and we are always available to discuss your requirements and provide helpful advice.

All money placed in the prepaid funeral plan earns interest. New Zealand tax obligations are met by Sovereign Assurance Company Ltd. Upon death the money invested plus all interest due pays the funeral costs. In many cases there is a surplus which is refunded to the estate.
